Option 1 - Email the file directly from Google Drive

  1. Upload the file you wish to share to Google Drive
  2. Right-click the file and select Share > Share
  3. Enter the email of the individual or school you wish to share the file with.
  4. Change from Editor to Viewer
  5. From the same menu, Add expiration date to remove access after that date.
  6. Add any instructions or comments in the Message section.
  7. Send the file


Option 2 - Copy the link to the file and paste into an email

  1. Follow steps 1 through 5 above.
  2. Click the Copy link button in the lower-left corner of the window.
  3. Paste that link into your email message.


  • Google Drive files are encrypted.
  • Prevents unauthorized disclosure for Google and non-Google email users.
  • Requires non-Google email users to enter a code emailed separately to open the file.
  • Adding an expiration date adds another layer of security.
